Recently, I've been doing some serious spring cleaning in an effort to make my home more homey. I moved around some furniture to feng shui the place and give me a long wanted reading area. I opened closets, pulled out everything and packed up a bunch of shit for donation. I even threw away my catering tux that served me well for over 10 years. Funny, I actually got a bit emotional putting it in the trash. That thing paid the rent through many a cocktail reception or doing french service during 90 degree summer nights in the Hamptons. I cleared out drawers and got rid of anything from the past that isn't needed now. Four bags later, I breathed a sigh of relief to get rid of the old and welcome the new. Whenever I've done a good housecleaning, internally or environmentally, good things happen.
See, I'm at a new point in life. I don't want anything that doesn't serve me or anyone around me who doesn't have my back. I've got a great circle of friends who I can call at 3:00 in the morning, and I know how fortunate I am. I'm learning how to let go of old people who don't connect with me anymore. As I've heard, "Some friends are for a reason, some friends are for a season, and some friends are for a lifetime..."
Whatever. Out with old, hello to the new.
